My previous model, the HG 1/144 Miguels Ginn, had a poor wash applied so I needed more practice. I also practiced masking for the first time. I masked off the shield to get the two different colors both airbrushed on. Overall, the model was a quick build and pretty successful at meeting the goals. The enamel wash turned out much better on this one (see back of the head), and the masking worked. However, the masking process did take longer than expected. I guess I have a habit of underestimating how long things will take! One other thing is this model was not balanced. I suppose because of the jets on the back there was a lot of weight, and there isn’t really any way to move the feet around and try to center the balance. To solve the issue, I filled the bottom of the feet with some putty to add some extra weight to them, and it worked! There were gaps on the bottom of the feet which allowed this. Finally, it turned out more glossy than expected. I used a gloss clear coat to top it off, and it turned out quite shiny. More than I would have preferred. If you aren’t sure about how glossy a clear coat is, test it on something small before on a larger model. I think one day I would really like to build a larger GP01.
